Today we chat with Nicholas Molnar from Wantering. He shares with us his startup story, funding and the business development at Wantering.
They're taking online shopping head on. I need a new wallet, how do I find the best one? Wantering built a search engine to crawl products all over the web, and deliver the best results to you in a beautiful way. There's others trying in this space, but aren't optimal, even Google's product.
Friend of the show Max from WhatRunsWhere, introduced us to Wantering, which he invested in and advises with his online marketing expertise.
Wantering.com offer's a beautiful experience that you're used to with social sites like pinterest, but offers a buy button on every product. They filter and sort their product catalog, built from crawling the sources directly, not relying on standard xml feeds alone. This provides them higher resolution images and more up to date inventory and pricing data.
They have about 200,000 products listed in their catalog currently and plan to double this summer. Not only do they have big stores, but smaller boutiques that don't have as much visibility.
Amazon has a large big store offering, but they don't do a good job at fashion, where taste and reviews need to be more timely. Using social indicators, and being tapped into the changing industry is key to keeping up.
Monetization is always the big question. They have clear affiliate opportunity and are looking to drive value with their high intent audience, active shoppers.
Having a great group of investors to provide advice, motivation and realistic goals has helped keep moving the team forward.
Gaining 200,000 followers on Tumblr has been an excellent platform to grow interest in the Wantering product. Not just a single blog, but around 40 verticals serving individual interests.
The team at Wantering has found clever ways to use Tumblr to reach out to their audience without overloading the dashboard, while offering a full shopping experience on their blogs. They also track their top contributors and include a leaderboard to reward their efforts.
Content marketing really is our sweetheart and we love to hear their focused strategy on their blog audience. We even get a tour of their game themed conference room and peek of the office space of 10 people in Vancouver.
Nicholas is generous enough to show us a peek of the upcoming product release. They have a clean front end to display what they think you'll want to see, and you can save your favorites. It's easy to browse and see the products, share them with friends and buy the products.
Thank Nicholas for being on the show by following the Wantering Blog and signing up at Wantering.com!
