Anji Ismail is co-founder of a 7-person startup which is trying to disrupt the big advertising agency model via curating & qualifing the best experts for SEO, Social Media and Content marketing specific for different niches and countries.

He imagines a time where there will be small fluid teams that come together and disband based on client / product domain and geography. Doz aims to faciliate that workflow of digital work & maintain high quality standards that bigger brands require. Currently Doz.com has over 3500 experts that are vetted via peer review and other methods.

Building a marketplace is always tricky, all to common is the "chicken and egg" problem.  How does a small startup attract the best SEO talent in the world, and get great clients to service?

One innovative tactic is to create a contest! That's exactly what Anji Ismail did.  He shares his "made up keyword phrase" as the task for SEO experts to try compete to rank number 1.  Also some surprising outcomes like peers competing to beat each other for rank.

Doz has digital marketing task flow built in.  Many brands and clients don't wish their whole campaign visible to everyone in the marketplace, so Doz breaks up the phases of each campign into tasks. These tasks are divied up among the top performing providers filtered by task type and country / domain expertise.

Service providers are also vetted by a peer review system to maintain quality and integrity. These peers were originally sourced via API connections with Linkedin.

Doz currently is funded via 100k angel investment and Anji has setup an office in San Fransicso to be in the heart of all the Cloud Infrastructure.

Anji on the demand platform for professional experts in the digital marketing space says there are two business models.  Performance oriented like startups & eCommerce that will convert leveraging the idea of contest or the prize tactic that Anji used to build 1/2 of the marketplace.  The other is good ol' 10 hours a week limits per provider.

After chatting, we're definitely putting Las Vegas on our startup cities to visit.

We thank Anji for joining us and sharing his story with us!
